One of the prime benefits that stands out about the Beltronics RX65 radar detector is its distance. The exterior design for the Beltronics Pro RX65 is simple, elegant, and practical. It’s a relatively small box that comes with two suctions cup that allows it to stick to your windshield without leaving you wondering about whether or not it’s going to fall off. Once you set it into place, you’ll still be provided with some “wiggle room” for making adjustments as needed. This is something that you won’t find in many other models.
The Beltronics RX65 comes with a crisp red LED display on one end, which, while it doesn’t look exceptionally luxurious, will allow you to see it at any time of day. The black plate on the opposite side of the device is designed for picking up on radar signals. There’s also a small pod located on the top of the detector that is designed to detect signals originated from the rear of the vehicle.
Being able to detect both rear and front signals is what dramatically increases the chances that you won’t get caught by a speed trap. Across the top of the detector you’re also going to find buttons that control the following:
The sensitivity and brightness buttons perform a double function as programming buttons when you tap into the “settings” mode of the device. This setup is relatively easy to use and ensures that newbies won’t have any issues setting up their new radar detector.
At the driver-facing end of the device is a volume button. Changing the brightness or sensitivity for the Beltronics RX65 radar detector only requires the single touch of a button: basically, hold down the volume button as it becomes smaller, then back up.
Holding this button down while driving might seem like an inconvenience at first, but with a little practice, you’ll be able to do it with ease. The button also serves as a way of entering “quick mute” mode when the detector is making beeping sounds.
Not only will the RX65 show you the type of laser or radar band being detected, but it will also show you how strong the signal is via a set of bars that can easily be seen on the device’s display. You’ll hear a series of beeps, as well as a voice alert, whenever a band has been detected. After five beeps, the device will automatically mute itself. This is to ensure that you aren’t constantly bombarded with dozens of false alerts.
Like many radar detectors, the RX65 will inform you whether the signal you’re receiving is an X-band, Ka-band, K-band (or even a laser). The default mode for the mode is known as Auto Scan. When in this default mode, the detector will automatically adjust its own sensitivity based on the type of signal it receives. Remember that you can manually push the sensitivity button to enter modes like Highway Mode or City Mode.
When in City Mode, the detector will reduce its sensitivity to X-band radar signals. Why? Because it’s very unlikely that you’ll run into an unexpected speed trap while in the city. It’s possible, but not likely, and you don’t want to get bombarded with hundreds of false alerts just because there’s a tiny chance there’s going to be a cop around. Once you leave the city, you can enter Highway Mode, which increases the X-band radar sensitivity and automatically allows you to catch speed traps from a distance.
Quickly and Easily Adjust Device Settings
Programming the Beltronics RX65 is relatively easy to program. For instance, you can turn on (or off) specific radar band detections. You can turn off voice notifications, or even set the start-up sequence into “fast mode”. The options are endless! Another thing to take note of is that the RX65 has t ability to receive “Safety Warning System” alerts, although by default, they are turned off.
The Safety Warning System messages are sent via the radar, and will alert you of things like weather-related problems or roadwork ahead – even if there are emergency vehicles in the vicinity. Remember that since the device comes with this feature automatically turned off, you’ll need to turn it “on” in the settings menu.
